Dental Health and Safety

Almost every individual at a certain stage in his/her life will have or had entered a dental practice. Majority of people will visit the clinic on a regular basis to make sure a dental examination of their teeth is in place to determine any dental issues at an early stage. At our office, we are concerned about your dental health and safety, and strictly utilize hygienic standards, infection control procedures, and sterilization as mandated by the infection protocol standards set forth by the Alberta Dental Association and College. The below mentioned are some methods and practices we employ to ensure your safety:

Autoclave (pressurized steam):

Dental instruments and hand pieces (drills) are sterilized in a high-pressure steam autoclave after each use. Such a process is the standard of care in dentistry. The autoclave warns us in the incident of an incomplete sterilization cycle and protocols are in place to rectify such problems immediately. Additionally, as a precaution, we also use an external biological indicator test to make sure that our autoclave is functioning appropriately and producing sterile instruments.

Surface Decontamination

All surfaces such as dental chairs, counter-tops, light handles, stools, and control buttons are disinfected with chemical solutions before and after each patient. Such solutions are not only formulated to eradicate infectious bacteria and viruses which could otherwise proliferate on these surfaces, but the chemicals themselves pose no health threat to our patients once they are dry.

Disposable items:

Majority of the things we use today are discarded after a single use. These items include high-speed suction tips, saliva ejectors, rubber cleaning cups, drinking cups, tray covers, patient bibs, mixing tips, mixing pads, anesthetic carpules, and needle tips. Masks and gloves are discarded too after every use. In case you have any inquiry regarding any of our dental health and safety procedures, kindly feel free to ask us at +1 (403) 252 7733, or when you visit at Expressions Dental Clinic in Calgary NW.
